The area around Saito Pia is a region where young people, elderly people, inhabitants, foreigners and diverse citizens gather. As a community exchange center in such a region, we are actively adopting collaboration with the region that considers the works of the already existing Universal Designs (UD). Our slogan is “Creating friendly space for everyone.” For example, we have set up a information provision section, so that families can enjoy child-related and child-rearing information in a room. It can be used free of charge as a space that parenting generations can feel comfortable inside. Because many elderly people use the facility, it has been set up so signs are color-coded for each floor and each room now has its own number. Also, with the relocation of Kyushu University, many foreigners have relocated leading to an increase in the usage of the building year on year. Therefore we have created a facility guide in English so that overseas people can navigate and use the facilities without trouble or burden. The annual event calendar has an English version publication to be helpful for foreigners and allow a more diverse attendance of people. In terms of management; staff strive to deepen their experience and knowledge through skills such as assistant professional, volunteer to support the disabled, Universal Design training and more. Ultimately, more effective communication is born from using the space and the popularity increase in media conforming to universal design.
